Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards sign up top local radio presenter
Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce has made its first summer signing after securing the support of well-known local radio personality Andy Giddings who will host the 2017 Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards.
After presiding of the event in 2016, the popular broadcaster who is perhaps best known locally as being the host of BBC Radio Sheffield’s popular football chat show, Praise or Grumble, the Chamber invited Andy to return to host the most prestigious local business event on the calendar.
The Business Awards celebrates the achievements of South Yorkshire’s business community and the glittering awards ceremony will take place at Magna on Friday 13th October.
In a broadcasting career spanning more than 17 years, Andy Giddings is one of BBC Radio Sheffield’s best known voices. He has provided commentary on hundreds of football matches and regularly contributes to the Toby Foster Breakfast Show. Andy has also commentated on football, rugby league and rugby union on national television and radio.
This year’s Business Awards have been sponsored by the RNN Group, which operates Rotherham College, North Notts College and Dearne Valley College, and entries are now open. Any business with an “S” Postcode is eligible to take part in the awards which are free to enter, whilst companies celebrating their 25th, 50th, 75th or even 100th Anniversary in 2017 may be eligible to receive a salute to business.
During the evening Andy will announce award winners of twelve different categories as well as announcing the Chamber’s Charity of the Year and the winner of the much sought-after Business of the Year, selected from the winning entries.
Andy Giddings said:
“The Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards celebrates the achievements of businesses based throughout South Yorkshire and I feel very honoured to be able to share the achievements of businesses in the region. Last year was the first time I attended the event and I was fascinated by the diversity and clear passion which is helping to drive the local economy.
Andrew Denniff, Chief Executive, Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, said:
“As the voice of Radio Sheffield Sport, Andy is very well known throughout South Yorkshire and we’re looking forward to giving him a warm welcome when he takes to the stage to announce the winners of this year’s awards.
