Overlooking the pleasant Mandela Gardens in the heart of Barnsley, The Civic was re-opened to the public in 2009 after being closed for more than 11 years. Now operated by an independent charitable trust, The Civic proudly brings to Barnsley the world-class touring theatre, music, dance and exhibitions, most of which are en route to larger UK cultural centres and other venues around the globe. Comprising a large auditorium (the Assembly Room), exhibition spaces (Gallery@, Panorama and the Staircase), working offices, meeting rooms and an in-house bistro. We also host a variety of our events in the gardens, particularly during the summer months when the warm sunshine and dry outlook provide the perfect setting for a performance or two in the park! With something for everyone, The Civic is Barnsley's destination for the arts, offering a warm and friendly welcome to all who visit our extraordinary venue.
