Exporting for Growth & Global Growth Funding Programmes

The Department for International Trade (DIT) Yorkshire and the Humber are delivering a programme of £6.7m of European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funding for the Exporting for Growth and Global Growth Programmes.

The programmes deliver support to both first time exporters and those already exporting, across Sheffield City Region, to allow businesses to grow their success within international markets. Any company looking for funding must be working with the Department for International Trade and any support must fit within a company’s overall export strategy.

ERDF, part of the European Structural and Investment Funds programme (ESIF), provides funding to support economic growth for England. The programmes focus on strengthening the regions’ businesses and increasing employment. Companies can access matched financial support to develop exports and generate job creation.

Exporting for Growth Programme

Exporting for Growth is aimed at companies wanting to develop their international business or get started with international trade. In addition to the funding, companies will receive impartial and tailored advice from DIT International Trade Adviser who will be happy to assist you throughout the process and project.

Eligible SME’s (Small to Medium Enterprises) can apply for grants of up to £10,000 depending on size and capability as part of the Exporting for Growth programme which is match funded and can be used for various projects.

All companies can apply for the £5000 funding which only requires one new job to be created. The £10,000 funding band is likely to be only available to larger SME’s as one of the requirements is that it helps create at least 3 new jobs within the applicant company. Each application will be reviewed accordingly after submission to qualify funding levels.

What can the funding be used for?

  • Flights and accommodation to agreed target markets
  • Overseas trade events entry and exhibition costs
  • Design and production of international marketing material
  • Internationalisation of website including translations
  • International market research and consultancy services

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • The company must be located in the Sheffield City Region, Leeds City Region or Humber LEP
  • Be an SME – Less than 250 employees and annual turnover does not exceed €50 million OR annual balance sheet does not exceed €43 million
  • No more than 25% of the organisation is owned by an enterprise that in itself is not an SME

Global Growth Programme

The Global Growth Service supports globally ambitious businesses to drive their future growth through a step change in export performance. The DIT provides a structured programme of support, tailored to your own specific needs. DIT will partner with you to capitalise on the enormous growth potential available overseas.

The Global Growth Programme is designed for larger companies who have a project in mind or those who might have employed a consultant to manage a project that’s based around International trade, and offer the programme on 50% match funded basis up to £3,500.

The Global Growth programme is different to the Export for Growth programme in that it is more strategically focused where the Export Growth managers who are some of DIT’s most experienced advisors, will complete a very detailed diagnostic to assess your export capabilities.

They will then create a tailored action plan with you to focus your export activities in the right areas, drawing on specialist expertise and services where required and support you in maximising your export investment. You will be fully assisted through the delivery of the plan which includes the match funding of £3,500.

Eligibility Criteria for the Global Growth Programme:

  • Annual turnover is between £5m & £40m
