Children from Dinnington Community Primary School have been getting crafty for Christmas in a bid to raise money for a local good cause.

Earlier this year, the pupils teamed up with staff members from Carlton Park Hotel to learn the secrets behind creating the perfect Christmas pudding. After the puddings were carefully cooked and left to rest for several months to mature in flavour, the pupils were given the chance to transform their puddings into colourful Christmas creations.

Using a selection of coloured icing, each pudding was individually named and decorated before being donated to Rotherham Hospice, where they are now on sale. The Christmas Pudding Challenge formed part of Carlton Park Hotel’s Summer Santa week back in July, where staff took part in a range of fundraising activities including a Christmas Jumper Day and Pound on the Pillow initiative, raising £250.00 for Rotherham Hospice.

Jason Gossop, Sales Manager, Carlton Park Hotel said:

“Working in the hotel industry means Christmas starts earlier for us than for most people and this year, we wanted to give the pupils at Dinnington the chance to find out what it takes to create the perfect pudding.

“The best Christmas puddings are made many months ahead of Christmas to allow the flavours to develop and mature, resulting in rich flavours that make the puddings so special. After letting the puddings sit and mature, we took them back to school where pupils were given the chance to try their hand at icing the puddings and I was really impressed with how quickly the pupils got to grips with the challenge.

“Christmas is the season of giving and we wanted to give something back to the local community. Our work with the school pupils helped them to learn cooking and baking skills, resulting in some truly wonderful and imaginative creations, which we now hope will help to raise additional funds to support a charity which is close to our hearts.”

Carlton Park Hotel’s Christmas calendar of events is available to view online at http://www.carltonparkhotel.com/ChristmasBrochure2017.pdf with events for all the family, such as the hotels first ever pantomime, a Frozen themed breakfast and themed festive lunches.
