A life saving solution to your Secret Santa dilemma

With the festive season upon us, businesses across the region will be decking their computer monitors with colourful tinsel and encouraging their staff to wear jazzy knitwear to work. It’s the perfect time of year to say thank you to your employees and to celebrate the achievements of the past 12 months.

Whilst Secret Santa is designed to ensure each and every team member feels valued and included, it can be tricky when the name you pull from the hat doesn’t fill you with gift inspiration. Luckily, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) has the answer to your present problem.

The Heart of Steel sculpture, unveiled earlier this year at Meadowhall Shopping Centre, stands 2.4 metres high and has space for around 150,000 names to be engraved. Each name represents a donation of £20 or more to the BHF, contributing to life saving research into heart and circulatory disease.

Nicola Jones, Fundraising Manager at the BHF, said: “What more perfect gift could there be, than immortalising your colleague on this amazing sculpture! Not only is it something quirky and different – but it also supports vital research into heart and circulatory diseases, helping the BHF beat heart break, forever.”

The sculpture, which so far hosts around 4000 names, was created by local steelworker-turned-artist Steve Mehdi. Funding for the piece was provided by local Sheffield businesses.

Steve Mehdi added: “I have been deeply touched by the people who have donated to this project so far and the stories they have shared. My thanks goes to the companies that have provided support, the British Heart Foundation for their tremendous vision, and the tireless effort of countless people who have made the Heart of Steel what it is today.”
