SUMMARY:Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce 14th Annual General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Downloads: \nAnnual Accounts \nProxy form \nNotice is hereby given that the 14th Annual General Meeting of the Company will be held virtually on Thursday\, 26th November 2020 from 12 noon in order to – \nA. Welcome and Review of the Year \nB. To approve the appointment of a President Elect \nC. Announce the appointment of new and re-appointed Councillors to the Chamber’s Representative Council. \nD. Consideration of the Accounts and the Annual Report. \nE. The Year Ahead – Looking Forward to 2021 \nDated:      21st October 2020 \nBY ORDER OF THE BOARD \nCarrie Sudbury \nCompany Secretary \nThe President and other directors will host the meeting from the Company’s premises and proxies and representatives of Members can participate via Zoom and we will do our best to make the meeting as open and participative as possible. \nWhen it comes to voting by Members on resolutions at the AGM\, we will ask Members to vote via Zoom as that will obviously give the Board instant feedback on each item of business at the meeting. However\, there are practical and technical limitations to voting via Zoom and\, therefore\, in order to ensure that the votes of Members are accurately recorded\, the Board has determined that\, after each vote via Zoom\, the proxy votes sent in by Members prior to the meeting should be counted and recorded in order to provide the official voting result on each of the Resolutions to be proposed at the meeting. So\, it’s therefore important for each Member to complete\, sign and send in\, before the AGM\, a proxy form (which accompanies this Circular). \nNotes to the Notice of the AGM                                                        \n1.  As a member of the Company\, you are entitled to appoint a proxy to exercise all or any of your rights to attend\, speak and vote at the Meeting and you can obtain a proxy form from the Chamber website here. \nYou can only appoint a proxy using the procedures set out in these notes. \n2. A proxy does not need to be a member of the Company but must attend the Meeting to represent you. Details of how to appoint the Chairman of the Meeting or another person as your proxy using the proxy form are set out in the notes to the proxy form. \n3. If you do not give your proxy an indication of how to vote on any resolution\, your proxy will vote or abstain from voting at his or her discretion. Your proxy will vote (or abstain from voting) as he or she thinks fit in relation to any other matter which is put before the Meeting. \n4. The notes to the proxy form explain how to direct your proxy how to vote on each resolution or withhold their vote. \nTo appoint a proxy using the proxy form\, the form must be completed and signed\, sent or delivered to the Company at: \nBarnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce \nAddress: 6 Genesis Business Park\nSheffield Road\nRotherham      S60 1DX \n or by email to diane.graham@brchamber.co.uk \nand received by the Company no later than 12 noon on Wednesday\, 25th November 2020. \n5. To change or terminate your proxy instructions simply submit a new proxy appointment using the methods set out above. Note that the cut-off time for receipt of proxy appointments (see above) also apply in relation to amended instructions; any amended proxy appointment received after the relevant cut-off time will be disregarded.

SUMMARY:Work and Wellbeing – Return to the ‘New Normal’
DESCRIPTION:We are certainly living in uncertain times! Just a few months ago\, who would have ever thought the whole world would be experiencing the challenges we currently face. But already we have started to accept the fact that the future way of working and living will look very different from that to which we have become accustomed. \nAs we begin to look at moving down to the next levels of Covid-19 alertness scales towards a phased transitions to new ways of working\, we need to maintain a high degree of positivity\, optimism and an open mind if we are not only going to ‘get through this’\, but actually thrive and reach new levels of engagement and performance in both our personal and work lives in the future. The current circumstance must be seen as an opportunity for growth and a better way! \nIf we know and understand our own wellbeing needs a little better\, if nothing else\, we can more certain of our response to the outside world that my hold uncertainty for us. We can modify our perception of it as required and seek opportunities to reach new levels of engagement\, performance and wellbeing. \nCore Topics – Work Well \nThriving in the ‘New Normal’\nOvercoming challenges start with adopting a positive Mindset first\, followed by focused actions towards reaching a state of physical and mental balance. Species that survive and thrive have always adapted well to change. Although we sometimes don’t like being taken out of our ‘comfort zone’\, flexibility in how we operate can take us away from old ways of seeing things and new ways of ‘doing’ things. This webinar focusses on what we can do right now to see new ways of living and working for health and wellbeing advantage. \nDealing with Uncertainty \nFew of us have experienced the disruption to a familiar way of living that is impacting on everyone in ways that are creating uncertainty and for many\, anxiety and fear. There is uncertainty\, but a focus now on what we are more certain of seems to be a sensible option to adopt in the present climate. As we begin a new phase of transition to new ways of working\, this webinar is intended to remind us of what we can and should be doing to ensure our own ‘Psychological Safety’\, and ‘Physical Resilience’ so we can be reassured we are doing the best we can for ourselves and those around us. \nRealigning Time\, Energy & Effort \nThe last few years have highlighted the negative impact of extended hours and larger workloads on our health and wellbeing. Recent events have forced us into a new way of thinking about our engagement and performance in work related activities. The current situation has highlighted opportunities to realign with an ‘economy of effort’ which can only have significant performance and wellbeing advantages if managed correctly. This webinar will focus on how we can prioritise time & energy on more high leverage tasks to free up energy and effort for more a productive and balanced way of operating as we enter this new transition phase. \nWorking from home \nFor many of us\, the ‘return to work’; when it happens\, will most likely be very different from how we previously worked. Cost and time advantages of working remotely have already been proven. The ‘new normal’ will more than likely include a combination of home and previous workplace ‘worktime’. The webinar will focus on how employees can optimise their time\, space and energy to thrive and maximise performance and engagement for personal wellbeing and organisational efficiency. \nRelationship Balance at Home \nThe vast majority of us have been asked to work from our homes creating many new challenges. As we now start to focus on moving back to our previous work settings\, many will still need to spend some of their worktime at home and probably for some time to come. There will still be pressures created due to restrictions of space and competing demands. It does require a change in mindset and a degree of self-discipline to stay focussed\, engaged\, productive and healthy. Our mindset needs to be aware of the needs of others too! Flexibility\, emotional intelligence and practical ways to deal with potential conflict at the first available opportunity is key. This webinar has been devised to help us look at optimising how we go about the next phase of transition which for many will include a degree of home working. It covers the main considerations and practical measures to ensure we remain effective and healthy and identify and help manage the needs of others with whom we share space. \nThriving on Change \nWithin the last few weeks most of us have been thrust into a major change in the way we live and work. Overall\, we have adapted well to the changes and found new ways to engage in our work lives. As plans to return to work are now being formulated\, the transition will mean further adaptations to a new way that may well be quite different for many. How do we adapt to this new Change? Our responses will vary depending on our circumstances. We have proved we are a flexible species. How can we thrive on further impending change? This webinar focusses on how we can smooth the transition to a new way of working and what we can do to ensure personal and team balance in the ‘new normal’. \nSafe Commuting \nAlthough there are still restrictions on commuting to and from work\, many will still need to use public transport to get to their main place of work. Travelling safely means being aware of potential dangers. A positive mindset and being alert to risks will help keep commuters safe and healthy. This webinar focusses on developing an awareness and how to adopt safe and practical behaviours while commuting. It will focus on practical personal interventions to build both Mental and Physical Resilience. \nMental Health Awareness \nThere has been a major and positive shift towards increasing the awareness of Mental Health Conditions over the last few years. Much work has been done to reduce the stigma surrounding Mental Illness. As we start to transition out of what has been an unprecedented and impactful change across the globe\, it is inevitable that there will have been an impact on the mental health of many. It is essential that we carefully manage the next phase of our return to a more balanced way of living and working. Feeling mentally healthy is a state of wellbeing in which we realise our own potential\, can cope with the stresses of life\, work productively and are able to make a contribution to the community that we live and work in. Mental wellbeing is about how we feel about ourselves; how we feel about others; and how we are able to meet the demands of life. This webinar has been developed to further raise the awareness and importance of continuing the excellent work that has been done to date in raising awareness and tackling the source of mental imbalance. It will serve to assist everyone in looking at their own mental health and become more aware of what to look for in colleagues who maybe feeling the pressures of change. \nThe ‘New Normal’ – Work Well Support Topics \nDeveloping Mental Resilience\nAs we return to more familiar ways of working\, there will be many unfamiliar aspects of our work will need to be embraced. We will need to operate safely and effectively. This webinar will focus on how we can maintain a high degree of Mental Resilience to ensure pressure and change is embraced positively for personal growth during this new transition phase. \nDealing effectively with high pressure situations \nHigh pressure situations will inevitably arise as we enter a new phase of working. This webinar will focus on practical ways we can optimise our performance while under pressure. It will include how we will need to be mindful of the pressures that others may be facing and how we can make an overall ‘team effort’ to reducing team perceived pressures to work safely and effectively. \nWork life balance \nChange can impact on our personal sense of balance and put strain on some aspects of our personal\, family and social lives. This webinar will focus on how we can address imbalance and proactively address circumstances with more positive thoughts\, behaviours and actions to create a sense of renewed personal equilibrium. The webinar will focus on helping understanding as to how to balance energy inputs and outputs using a practical action plan for more balance. \nPhysical Resilience – Managing personal energy & fatigue \nWith our typically more sedentary lifestyles\, constantly juggling the relentless demands on our energy reserves at both work and home\, it’s easy to ‘run out of steam’. As we face even more new challenges there is still an expectation to perform at a high level but under ever increasing uncertainty and pressure it is easy for us to feel physically fatigued. Our energy levels dictate how well we cope with pressure. This webinar introduces the concept of energy management; how energy influences performance in all aspects of our lives; and how we should pace ourselves to peak at the right times even though we may feel pressured. \nThe Power of Positive Thinking \nWe are what we think and we all have our own unique slant on the world. There are currently around 7.5 billion versions of the world! It could be easy to see current pressures and an impending return to the ‘old ways of working’ in a negative or positive way – the view will be subjective! Is your glass half-empty or half-full? How we answer this age-old question about positive thinking may reflect our outlook on life\, our attitude toward ourselves\, and whether we are more optimistic or pessimistic. All can have a major impact on our perception of the impending return to work. This webinar will focus on positive thinking that is typically aligned with optimism. It is a key part of effective stress and pressure management and essential to developing resilience as we look ahead to further change. \nHealthy eating – ‘Choice for Change’ \n“We are what we eat” and it’s no secret that as a nation\, we could do a little better with regard to our choices of dietary intake. Improved awareness of what constitutes a healthy balance can have a major impact on our health. The current transition into a new way of operating provides an excellent opportunity to for us to review how\, what and when we eat for optimal engagement and health. There are many questions circulating with regard to our diet and immune systems at present and the webinar will provide an opportunity to address fact and myth regarding our food intake and health. The webinar will focus on our relationship with food and on making the right food choices in a sustainable way! \nOptimising Sleep \nChange and uncertainty can certainly impact on our quality of sleep. This Webinar will help us understand the key issues related to poor sleep quality and focus on practical tips to improve sleep patterns to aid performance\, reduce fatigue and improve overall health and wellbeing during these changing times. \nEmotional Wellness \nEmotional Wellness relates to the ability to link our feelings and health. This webinar introduces ways of further understanding and managing our emotions and how this can lead to improved performance and sense of personal fulfillment as we prepare to undertake further personal changes towards a new way of operating. The webinar includes practical tips and strategies to develop greater ‘Emotional Intelligence’ and can be applied both in the workplace and to life in general as we prepare to move into a new phase. \nIntroduction to Mindfulness \nAs we prepare for a return to what for some may be a more familiar way of operating\, for others there will be many unknowns. In the past few weeks many will have experienced the benefits of a different pace life during isolation or remote working for whatever reason. A slower and more mindful way of life has been experienced by many. Mindfulness is a way of ‘paying attention’ to the present and usually starts by simply slowing down and ‘following the breath’ which immediately calms the body and mind\, reducing heart rate and blood pressure. This ‘pause’ is an opportunity for emotional rest; become fully present; and temporarily free of anxiety and negative feelings. This webinar provides an insight into the concept of Mindfulness and introduces practical techniques to get started in more mindful practices that can be used both at work and at home. \n‘Applied Relaxation’ \nOur natural reaction to change and uncertainty will be to raise our physical preparedness and minds for action. As we prepare for a transition to a return to work and very different way of operating there will be some inevitable anxiety. We have an innate ability to counter act any negative impacts of being continually alert to what we perceive as an external threat. This webinar introduces personal relaxation techniques to assist participants in finding ways to create more personal balance both in and out of the working environment. It will focus on a means to deal more effectively with physical tension and anxiety. The webinar will assist in increasing early awareness of anxiety signs and symptoms and teach how to take control of personal anxiety responses when in pressure situations.\nPace Life Better \nMany have heard of ‘circadian rhythms’\, the daily cycle that regulates our level of ‘wakefulness’ and sleep during the day and night. There is no doubt that a key focus of our attention as we face yet another new way of operating as we return to work will be how we pace ourselves. Get it right and we will ride the wave of change\, get it wrong and we could sink beneath it! Another type of natural bodily rhythms are ‘ultradian’ rhythms’ that happen more than once – in fact we naturally ebb and flow between rhythm peaks and troughs every 90 – 120 minutes.\nSince it has been shown that taking advantage of this natural rhythm has profound physical and mental health benefits\, it is a better idea to do what your brain is asking you to do – relax and recharge the batteries on a frequent basis throughout the day as means to improve productivity and engagement. This webinar will help us understand how to align with the body’s natural ultradian rhythms to build optimal recovery and performance states and to reduce fatigue improving engagement\, performance and wellbeing. \nEnergy4Life \nChange can cause us negative emotions and left unchecked\, our feelings of low mood will have an impact on our energy levels. Our actual Energy levels and perception of our own level of energy and feelings of fatigue will determine how well we feel at any moment in time and dictate how well we perform. If we think of our energy levels like a bank account with withdrawals and opportunities for deposits throughout the day. As we prepare for a transition back to a different way of working our uncertainty and apprehension can sap us of our energy\, but there is much we can do to make regular deposits to ward off fatigue and ensure we keep engaged\, productive and well as we prepare for change.\nThis webinar introduces the concept of Personal Energy Management with practical tips and ways to operate and work in a Smarter way as we face an impending transition to a ‘new way’. \nSafe Start to Exercising \nThere has been a noticeable increase in the number of people who have commenced with some form of exercise activity since the recent changes in relation to Covid-19 lockdown and movement restrictions. A new perception of the benefits of exercise has clearly emerged. As we start the preparation for the next phase of our response to safer ways of moving around our respective environments\, the benefits of feeling fitter through increase activity are clear. It is essential that we continue the identified positive shift towards a more healthy and active lifestyle. This webinar focuses on how to implement an effective exercise programme. It will assist in how to plan and monitor weekly exercise routines to support continued improved fitness and good health. It will cover practical ways to incorporate more movement during commuting and break times from work. \nBack care & posture \nWhether we are working from home or our usual place of work\, it is essential to maintain good postural balance. To engage optimally in our own work and with others in our respective teams. This webinar focusses on the best way to engage with our technology and environment to ensure we maintain postural balance. \nTo register your interest please email JuliaSykes@barnsley.gov.uk
