SUMMARY:Harnessing and developing creative ideas to drive product innovation
DESCRIPTION:How to book  \nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/harnessing-and-developing-creative-ideas-to-drive-product-innovation-tickets-181106934717 \nThis event will focus on: \n\nhow to create ideas for new or improved products\nhow to test and validate ideas using quick and cost-effective modelling and prototyping approaches\, including 3D printing\n\nTurning good ideas into successful products is the lifeblood of manufacturing companies\, but this can be tricky to achieve. How can we increase the number and quality of our ideas? And when we do\, how can we ensure that the right ideas are being taken forward? Once we’ve chosen an idea\, how might we reduce the development risk and accelerate the time to market? \nDesign Futures has been designing and developing innovative products for over 20 years. Over this period\, they have worked with companies of all sizes from start-ups to major multinationals\, including adidas\, Airbus and Arla. Their design work spans a diverse range of markets that include consumer\, industrial\, medical\, FMCG and automotive. Using design case studies\, the team from Design Futures will give an overview of some of the methods and tools that they use to support product innovation. Staff from the Research and Innovation Services at Sheffield Hallam University will also be speaking about the potential funding routes for businesses\, including the Sheffield Innovation Programme (SIP) and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) which are available through the University. \nIn this session\, you’ll hear about: \n\npossible sources for new ideas and how to initiate ideas generation processes (or how to refresh your existing processes)\nefficiently filtering ideas so that only the most promising ideas are pursued\nidentifying effective modelling and prototyping strategies and how to choose the most appropriate methods\nreducing risk throughout the development process\npotential funding sources\, including SIP and KTP\, that support innovative idea development and allow collaboration with a range of University experts\n\nRefreshments & canapes provided.

SUMMARY:Successful succession planning – Is an Employee Ownership Trust an option?
DESCRIPTION:Over the last 18 months\, we have seen an increased appetite surrounding Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs). Could this be an appropriate succession planning option for you? \nAn Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) enables a company to become owned by its employees. A trust is set up by the existing owners for the benefit of all employees. The trust then becomes the majority owner of the business. \nDespite the UK government introducing Employee Ownership Trusts in 2014\, we have found that business owners would like more guidance on whether a sale to an EOT would be an appropriate succession planning option. \nIn partnership with our member Shorts\, join us for this informative and engaging webinar to find out more and have your questions answered. \nWhy consider an EOT? \nEOTs are currently proving a very popular method of selling businesses\, due to the variety of benefits they bring: \n\nThere are attractive tax benefits covering Capital Gains Tax (0% tax on sale)\, and tax-free cash bonuses of up to £3\,600 a year for employees.\nThey offer the chance to sell your business for market value\, transferring the business to your employees and rewarding the people who have helped you succeed whilst leaving a lasting legacy.\nThe business model focuses on long term investment. Performance can improve because employees are better incentivised and more committed to the business.\n\n  \nOur event will cover a variety of issues\, including: \n\nWhat is an Employee Ownership Trust and how do they work?\nHow does a business decide whether an EOT would be the best option?\nWhat are the main benefits for the seller\, the employees and for the business itself?\nWhat are the tax benefits to an EOT?\nWhat are the key stages of carrying out the process?\n\n  \nAhead of the event\, discover more here: \n \nOur expert speakers: \n \nAndy Ryder\, Corporate Finance Partner at Shorts\nAndy has over 15 years of Corporate Finance experience. He has extensive knowledge of business acquisitions\, disposals\, EOTs\, management buyouts/ buy-ins\, and fundraising across a range of sectors and deal sizes\, from <£1m up to £50m. \n \nDavid Robinson\, Tax Director at Shorts \nA qualified Chartered Tax Adviser with over 10 years’ experience in the profession\, David joined Shorts having previously worked for national firms including BDO and RSM. He has significant experience advising growing owner-managed businesses on all aspects of taxation including; acquisitions and disposals\, reorganisations\, and exit planning.

SUMMARY:HS2: How Yorkshire businesses can get involved?
DESCRIPTION:Join this interactive webinar hosted by HS2 Minister Andrew Stephenson to find out how Yorkshire businesses can get involved with HS2\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nHS2 is a once in a generation opportunity to better connect UK towns and cities\, regenerate communities and make a step change in the Government’s commitment to become Carbon Zero. \nIt is already helping to boost the Yorkshire economy and that trend is expected to continue into the next decade and beyond. \nAlready 2\,000 businesses are working on HS2\, almost all of them are based in the UK and most are SMEs. \nBut there’s much more to come. Construction of the Birmingham – London phase of the railway is expected to create some 400\,000 contract opportunities and businesses in Yorkshire are well placed to take advantage. \nHosted by HS2 Minister Andrew Stephenson\, this is your opportunity to find out how Yorkshire businesses can get involved and join the HS2 supply chain. \nHear from our supply chain team about how you can take the first step\, no matter what the size or sector of business. \nWe’re also delighted to be joined by a Yorkshire based business who will be talking about how they got involved with HS2 and how it has helped their business to grow. \nWe will close the event with a Q&A so please join us and get involved in the conversation. \nWe need British businesses to help us build Britain’s new railway\, and this is your chance to find out how to get on board.
