SUMMARY:Getting Paid in International Trade
DESCRIPTION:Member price – £250.00 + VAT\nNon-member price – £300.00  + VAT \nDuration: 1 Day \n  \nCourse Overview \nThe world of rapid technological advancement means that companies of any size\, in just about any location\, can sell their products and services in international markets. Whilst sales and marketing activity becomes increasingly sophisticated and can use many of the increasing online commercial and social platforms to access a wider target market\, the question of payment remains more complex. \nThere have been many developments in the fintech sector which expedite the payment process\, however international trade still presents many challenges. What payment options are available and what terms should you offer? Cash in advance\, staged payments\, open account\, documentary collection or letter of credit? Can you decide or does the market dictate your options? How do you mitigate the many risks associated with international payment\, such as creditworthiness of your customer\, exchange rate fluctuation\, political and economic instability? What is the impact of the export payment cycle on the company’s cash flow? \nThis course explores all of the above in a practical\, interactive environment. It is suitable for staff within an organisation who have a responsibility for export finance\, developing business in overseas markets and negotiating payment terms with international customers. None of these departments can work in isolation\, and it is essential that some of the key information is shared with colleagues so that they understand the importance of processing the export order correctly in order to get paid. \n  \nBenefits \nBy the end of the day\, delegates will have a clear understanding of the following: \n\nKey terminology associated with export payments\nThe international trade cycle and where payment fits in\nThe different methods of payment used in international trade and how to comply with the requirements of these\nThe importance of export documentation in securing payment\nHow to evaluate and mitigate payment risk\nProcedures and parties involved in Letters of Credit\, the different types and how to comply with the requirements of each\n\n\nThey will leave with comprehensive notes and reference materials\, and\, most importantly\, the confidence that they understand both the options and mechanics of getting paid in international trade. \n

SUMMARY:Brexit Contingency Planning
DESCRIPTION:Member price – £250.00 + VAT\nNon-member price – £300.00  + VAT \nDuration: 1 Day \n  \nWe’re currently in the unenviable position of not knowing what’s going to happen on 31st October However\, the worst case scenario in terms of disruption to business would be a hard Brexit. Overnight\, not only would our goods be embroiled in delays at newly established border posts\, those delays would be made worse by shipments not having the right documentation. \n  \nWe don’t have control over the Withdrawal Agreement\, nor over traffic jams at borders but there are elements we can control: due diligence around what a hard Brexit will mean for our business and having the right paperwork in place for when our shipments (whether exports or imports) arrive at Customs posts\, enabling them to pass through as quickly as possible. \n  \nUnderstandably\, we would prefer not to spend time and money on plans that in the end may not be needed\, however\, even if a hard Brexit doesn’t transpire\, by December 2020 some other trade deal will be in place that will still need mostly the same due diligence and paperwork. Why not end the uncertainly for your business and get it out of the way now? \n  \nThe Chamber is offering a one-day\, interactive workshop for business decision makers\, aimed at clarifying the issues\, uncovering areas of your business that may be impacted and discussing contingency plans available to you. At the end of the workshop\, delegates will have a clear idea of which contingency plans to adopt for their own company\, be they for a hard or soft Brexit – or indeed anything in between. \n  \nAgenda \n\nEU – as we were\, setting the context\nPossible Brexit models available to us\nTimeline\nSignificance of the Withdrawal Agreement & Transition Period\nWhat would a Hard Brexit mean for your business?\n\nwe consider 10 key issues\n\n\nWorld Trade Organisation rules explained\nWhat contingency plans should you be considering and when?\nThe Irish question\nImpact on cash flow & overheads\nUK’s Withdrawal Agreement\n\n\n\n\nThe proposal\nThe Plan\nThe Devil’s in the detail\n\n\n\n\nBeneficial Actions to take regardless of type of Brexit\n\n  \nBarnsley business rate payers may be able to access a free place on this course (one delegate per course\, per company) and should contact us before booking to clarify eligibility. Please note that spaces are limited\, and will work on a first come\, first serve basis. \nFunding vouchers can only be claimed against full attendance at this course. Failure to attend will result in the full course cost being payable as per our standard terms and conditions. \n
