Chamber Patron’s Halloween Luck helps Local School

Long standing Chamber Patron, Oxley & Coward Solicitors LLP made sure there were no scares on Bonfire Night for the students at East Dene Primary School. Richard Sheppard, Oxley & Coward Solicitors’ Managing Partner was lucky enough  to win a ghoulish Halloween hamper in a raffle held by the staff of Harsco Metals Group Limited during a fund raising day to support the Breast Cancer Now Charity during Breast cancer Awareness month. Rather than overindulge on the treats, Richard donated his hamper to Chamber member, East Dene Primary School who used it as a prize in a safety awareness poster campaign. Classes were asked to design a poster to warn of the dangers on Bonfire Night and the winning class shared the goodies from the Hamper.

“I was chuffed to win the Hamper whilst supporting a worthwhile cause with Breast Cancer Now which is a charity close to the hearts of the staff at Oxley & Coward as Breast cancer has unfortunately touched many people’s lives. Harsco did a great job in organising the fund raising and the staff at Oxley & Coward were all too pleased to take part,” said Richard.

Richard added “the hamper looked so good that I thought it should be shared with children and as mine are all grown up I approached my friend Raymond V. Griffiths MBE who is the Chair of Governors at the East Dene Primary School”

Raymond was pleased to accept the gift on behalf of the School and worked with the Events team and Headmaster to create an enjoyable learning exercise on the dangers of Bonfire Night . Ray said “I have worked with Richard and the great team at Oxley & Coward for a few years now as a Trustee of a charity. When Richard got in touch with me I knew that the children at the School would love the Hamper and it was a great opportunity to encourage them to learn that although Halloween and Bonfire Night are, rightly, times to celebrate, the students also have to be aware of the safety risks.”
