Master Cutler gives Freeman College a hand – or two

So impressed was the Master Cutler, Ken Cooke, when he visited Sheffield’s Freeman College a few weeks ago, that he has made a second visit along with the Master & Mistress of the Company of Armourer and Brasiers and guests.

Staff and students cast their hands in pewter to mark their visit to this unique Sheffield traditional factory workshop.

Freeman College is part of Ruskin Mill Trust, a UK wide charity specialising in educational and residential provision for young people marginalised by disadvantage, exclusion or special learning needs. The curriculum combines education and therapies, delivered through practical skills in traditional hand-craft workshops. These activities support the students in creative engagement with positive challenges.

“I was delighted to return to Freeman College with our guests from London to show them the excellent work being carried out there,” said the Master Cutler, Ken Cooke. “My mission this year is to promote education and innovation in the Sheffield City Region and Freeman College does both.”

Pictured are the Master Cutler, Ken Cooke, the Master & Mistress of the Company of Armourer and Brasiers, their clerk Peter Bateman and Anthony Pontifex, all of whom were in Sheffield to present the annual Joint Education Awards to engineering undergraduates and young managers.
