Course Overview

Current legislation now states that it is compulsory for all new staff working within a nursery to undertake Paediatric first aid training within 3 months of starting employment in the sector. This course is accredited with the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) and meets these requirements. This course also meets Ofsted requirements and is approved for anyone working with children.

It focussed on scenarios that both professionals and family members could face at any time and everyone who completes the course will walk away with the knowledge and skills to allow them to administer prompt, safe and effective first aid in emergency situations involving young children

 

Who Should Attend Level 3 Paediatric First Aid?

This course is suitable for staff working in day nurseries, childminders, teachers and anyone who works with children.

  • The roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
  • Assessing an emergency situation
  • CPR and Defibs
  • Choking
  • Seizures
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Breaks, Fractures and Dislocations
  • Soft tissue and spinal injuries
  • Head Injuries
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Eye Injuries, Foreign objects, bites and stings
  • Poisoning
  • Burns, electric shock
  • Extreme of heat and cold
  • Shock
  • Meningitis and recognising childhood illness

 

Assessment & Qualification

The assessment is made up of oral questioning, practical elements, observations and a theory assessment containing multiple choice questions. The qualification is valid for 3 years at which point a requalification must take place.
