Good News From the Hidden Gem.

The South Yorkshire Transport Museum – one of Rotherham’s Hidden Gems – is a Museum that was awarded Full Accreditation status, by Arts Council England in the period before Covid and Re-accreditation for that status came up for renewal earlier this year. The Arts Council is the Government funded body responsible for the overview and supervision of art galleries, historic collections and museums in England. That Accredited status means that a museum is viewed as being correctly operated in all its aspects and is of benefit to the public. Accredited status also means that a museum has genuine credibility with ‘outsiders’ and is very important when seeking support from other organisations.

The Accreditation process is very detailed and a submission runs to around 100 pages (plus appendices) – so it is no mean task.

The very good news for the Museum – which is entirely run by unpaid volunteers – is that earlier this month its Re-accreditation was confirmed and it can continue to reflect that official status.

Chamber members (and families) wanting to research visiting the Museum, please see www.sytm.co.uk for details of the ‘Open Days’ (and group and school visits can also be arranged).
