Barnsley Council launch the Affordable Warmth Charter to help organisations tackle health inequality caused by fuel poverty

Last year, Barnsley Council launched an Affordable Warmth Charter to help organisations work together to share knowledge, expertise and resources on tackling the health inequalities caused by fuel poverty and help make sure Barnsley residents live in warm, healthy, energy-efficient homes.

To sign up to the Charter, you’ll be asked to demonstrate your commitment to affordable warmth by making a pledge against one or more of the five key priorities:

  • energy-efficient homes
  • affordable energy
  • employment, education and skills
  • partnership working
  • low-carbon commitments

Organisations making this commitment will be awarded the Affordable Warmth Charter Mark to display on websites and paperwork.

Representatives are also invited to attend the newly formed Barnsley Affordable Warmth Charter Group, which will meet twice a year to provide Information, best practice and share principles and learning across the partnership.

The first meeting will take place at the end of April. It’s a fantastic opportunity to speak to other organisations around the borough about what they’re doing to meet the Charter’s overarching vision of “A Barnsley where everyone lives in a warm, healthy, energy-efficient home.”

Applications are open for organisations of all sizes and submitting one is quick and easy – please read the implementation guidance and then fill out our registration form.

Further information is available on our Affordable Warmth Charter webpage, where you can read the Charter in full.

If you have any questions about the charter, how you can implement it at your organisation and the benefits it can bring, please email [email protected] or [email protected]
