Gulliver’s Valley hosts displaced Ukrainian children

Gulliver’s Valley has hosted 24 Ukrainian children and their families for a fun-filled day at the Rotherham theme park.

The visit was designed to offer the children, currently in the UK due to the war in Ukraine, a welcome distraction from the horrors taking place in their homeland.

Gulliver’s Valley joined forces with the Rotary District 1220 E-Club – a club that meets online via Zoom – to support the group and provide the children and their families with an opportunity for an exciting day of fun.

Andy Flowers, resort manager at Gulliver’s Valley, said: “It was lovely to welcome the group of Ukrainian children and their families to Gulliver’s Valley.

“They’ve all been through such a difficult time and so it’s great to be able to provide them with a little respite and a day of fun at the theme park, enjoying our rides and attractions.”

Philip Staton, president of the Rotary District 1220 E-Club, said: “All of the children, their parents and volunteer carers had a fantastic day out at Gulliver’s Valley.

“So many of us take a day out at a theme park for granted, but for this group it really means the world to be able to relax and have fun in the company of other Ukrainian people who have been through the same shared traumatic experience.”

The Rotary District 1220 E-Club teamed up with a number of local organisations to make the visit to Gulliver’s Valley happen, including Sheffield City Council, Morrisons Supermarkets and Mano Community Transport – which provided minibuses and volunteer drivers for the day.
