Gulliver’s Valley provides new home to Mayfield animals

Family run Gulliver’s Valley has stepped in to offer a new home to a range of animals, from reindeer to owls, after hearing that their current location was being put up for sale.

The much-loved Animal Park has operated for more than nine years from land just outside Ringinglow on the edge of the Peak District near Sheffield.

Julie Dalton, managing director of Gulliver’s Valley, said: “When I read about the predicament of Mayfield Animal Park and the 170 animals, I knew we could help.

“As a family run theme park with more than 45 years’ experience of offering a fun, engaging leisure experience for families from across the UK we could see that Mayfield Animal Park was a great fit for our visitors and we have the space to provide them with a lovely new home.

“Our ethos has always been to work with the local communities in which we operate and to develop partnerships with other local businesses. We are really excited to be able to offer the security of a new home to Mayfield Animal Park and we are all looking forward to welcoming the animals and the team to Gulliver’s Valley.”

The animals are currently being transported from Ringinglow to Rotherham and the Cavies and piping Guan will be on display from the end of February, with the skunks and meerkats welcoming visitors in a few weeks time.

Andrew Jonas, director at Mayfield Animal Park said: “We are extremely grateful to Julie and Gulliver’s for coming to the rescue. We have happily and successfully welcomed visitors for more than nine years and to suddenly find that we were going to be homeless was a huge worry.

“We’ve started to move our animals to Rotherham, and they are getting settled in and we expect the majority of them to be available for customers to see ready for the Easter holidays.

“We’ll be slowly introducing them over the coming weeks with our Brazilian Cavies and our Blue-Throated Piping Guan, Pippin, being among the first to explore their new home. We will also be running events at Gulliver’s Valley with keeper talks starting from early March.”

The relocation of the Animal Farm will see Andrew, his wife Keeley, and three current members of Mayfield staff working with the animal care team already at Gulliver’s Valley to look after all the animals.
