International award for Sheffield agency

Sheffield-based Hydra Creative has scooped an international award for an innovative project with the UK’s most successful basketball team.

Integrated design agency Hydra partnered with Sheffield Hatters – a volunteer-led women’s basketball club which was the first in the country when it launched in 1961 – to design stylish branding and a bold new website.

The website design represents the powerful women who are part of the Sheffield Hatters team, including pioneering founder Betty Codona OBE.

Now it has helped Hydra scoop the prestigious Hermes Creative Award 2022, which is an international competition for creative professionals.

It is hoped the website will help the Hatters obtain new sponsorship and investment opportunities after they struggled to fundraise during the Covid-19 pandemic and had to miss a season as a result.

Director of Hydra Creative, Ryan Daniels, said: “It is no secret that businesses have faced many barriers over recent years, so being able to support and work alongside the Hatters has been a real pleasure.

“Winning this award is excellent recognition of the amazing work our team produces for every client.”

The Sheffield Hatters are the most successful basketball team in the UK, now boasting nine teams and 65 national titles.

Their new website is user-friendly, stylish and makes it simple for people to keep up with all things Hatters.

Vanessa Ellis, founder Betty’s daughter, said: “The new website created by Hydra is amazing. “It really stands out and is different from most websites that you see.

“It really captures our story and our community.”

Hydra was nominated for the Hermes Creative Award in May and scooped the platinum award.
