Irwin Mitchell sponsor BR Chamber’s International Women’s Day

Irwin Mitchell is incredibly proud to be sponsoring this year’s International Women’s Day. It is a celebration of that reflects our commitment to diversity and inclusivity, both in our business and the community.

This year we have celebrated the promotion of 60 of our female colleagues to Associate and Senior Associate positions; this represented 71% of the overall promotions. This is a testament to the talent of our female leaders and the firm’s commitment to gender diversity. In fact, 65% of our lawyers are female, making us one of the top law firms in the UK for gender diversity.

Teams led by our female leaders have triumphed. In 2019 our Yorkshire family team, led regionally by Zoe Round and nationally by Ros Bever, fought off tough competition to win Family Law Team of the Year at the prestigious Yorkshire Legal Awards. The recent change in leadership set us apart from other finalists. At the same awards our Residential Property team led by Helen Hutchison and Tax, Trusts and Estates team led by Gillian Coverley were finalists in their own categories.

As an employer we have supported colleagues through our IM Inclusive programme, which focuses on the development of leaders from underrepresented groups. There has been overwhelmingly positive feedback from the programme, which included many working mothers.

Inclusivity and diversity does not apply to just our colleagues.

Our PRIME commitment is aimed at making the legal profession more inclusive and ensuring that students in the local community are aware of the opportunities available to them.

Our family team has a modern families specialist, Emma Hubbard. Her work includes supporting those in what can be perceived as an alternative family arrangement, such as surrogacy, donor conception and same-sex marriages.

As a firm with its roots in South Yorkshire, we are honoured to be celebrating the successes of women in our community.
