MAGNA hosts the Convention of the North

South Yorkshire’s MAGNA played host to the biggest ever Convention of the North last month.

The iconic former steelworks in Rotherham which is now home to an award winning events centre and science visitor attraction was selected as the venue for the much anticipated one day convention organised by the influential Northern Powerhouse body NP11. The event which brought together 650 delegates including political, business, community and academic leaders with a high profile speaker programme including Prime Minster, Boris Johnson giving the keynote address.

Northern Powerhouse Minister, Jake Berry MP said, “The world-class Magna venue in the heart of Yorkshire is a fitting place to host this landmark event.”

South Yorkshire based MAGNA which recently celebrated its 10,000th event booking is one of the largest in the Yorkshire region with 4,000m2 of space used for everything from awards dinners to exhibitions, concerts and sporting events.

Working with Newcastle based agency BeaconHouse Events, the Convention utilised every part of the extensive conference and event centre including breakout sessions in the Science Adventure Centre. Sophie Flanagan of BeaconHouse commented, “We had fantastic support from MAGNA ensuring all our enquiries and demands were met”.

Kevin Tomlinson, MAGNA CEO said, “It was a great honour to be chosen as the host venue for such a prestigious and seminal event which will undoubtedly help to define the future of the North.”
