Outstanding college to open its doors

Potential new students will have the opportunity to find out about the wide range of study programmes and see the facilities on offer at Barnsley College, Barnsley Sixth Form College and Barnsley College Higher Education at an Open Day on Thursday 24 November from 4.00pm to 6.00pm.

Visitors to the Open Day will have the opportunity to speak to tutors, attend presentations, find out about the range of support services available and visit the state-of-the-art campuses and facilities.

Rated Outstanding by Ofsted, Barnsley College and Barnsley Sixth Form College offer courses in a variety of subjects including full and part-time vocational programmes, A Levels, T Levels (Technical qualifications), apprenticeships and university-level courses.

Barnsley Sixth Form College offers 28 A Level subjects including Biology, Business, Psychology and Sociology. The Sixth Form College has an excellent reputation for success; in its summer 2022 results, the overall pass rate was 99% with a 100% pass rate in 20 subjects. Many students progressed onto further study at some of the country’s top universities including Bristol, Durham, and Sheffield.

For those who prefer a hands-on approach to learning, then a T Level or apprenticeship could be the perfect choice. These courses allow students to gain industry-specific knowledge and skills by working with experienced members of staff within their chosen sector, alongside theory in the classroom.

The college celebrated its first set of T Level results in 2022; with an overall pass rate of 98%. Many of the college’s former T Level students have secured full-time jobs, apprenticeships or are studying Higher Education courses at universities including Huddersfield, Lincoln and Newcastle.

Barnsley College Higher Education offers a range of university-level programmes including foundation and honours degrees, Higher and Degree Apprenticeships, HNCs, HNDs and professional business and leadership courses which are validated by leading universities.

Part-time and full-time study is available in subjects including Animal Management; Construction; Esports; Health and Social Care; and Management, ideal for anyone who’s looking to boost their skills and increase their earning potential.

If you want to join the college but would prefer to study in your own home and around your existing commitments, then the range of online courses may be for you. Visit www.barnsley.ac.uk/adults for more information on the courses starting in January.

Barnsley College’s Director of Student Recruitment, Mel Jenkinson, said: “We know choosing the right college and the right course is an important decision for you. Attending our Open Day will provide you with the opportunity to find out what studying with us is like.

“Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are here to support you to make the right decision which will allow you to take your first steps towards securing your dream career.”

There’s still time for 16 to 18-year-olds not currently in education, employment or training to apply for this academic year. Through a personalised timetable they could build their skills for the future – whether it’s a mix of art, engineering, digital and fashion; or construction, catering, games design, music, or anything in between.
