Rotherham and Barnsley businesses advised to offer better support to employees with ADHD

Rotherham and Barnsley businesses are being advised to recognise the importance of understanding the challenges faced by employees with ADHD, and to offer them appropriate support.

As the awareness around Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) continues to grow, a local HR expert is offering their advice on how to shape an inclusive work environment that supports and empowers everyone.

Laura Reilly owns and runs Taurus HR Solutions. She said, “ADHD can present unique difficulties for employees in various professional settings.

“Three common struggles are difficulty with focus and organisation, time management issues, and distraction and impulsiveness.

“But when employers provide the necessary support and make reasonable adjustments, they’ll see that people with ADHD can also bring some massive benefits to a business too.”

Laura suggests business owners focus on:

  • Offering flexible work arrangements, such as adjusted hours or the ability to work remotely
  • Setting clear expectations regarding work priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
  • Offering training programs, workshops, and access to resources that improve organisational skills, time management, and self-regulation.

She said: “It’s time businesses started to recognise the valuable contributions employees with ADHD can bring.

“That’s things like creativity and innovative thinking, high energy levels and enthusiasm, and unrivalled multitasking capabilities and focus.”

Laura believes that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to succeed in the workplace.

She added: “By acknowledging ADHD Awareness Month this October, and promoting inclusivity, we demonstrate our commitment to supporting and empowering every member of our team.”

For a short time, she is offering free 15 minute consultations to local business owners.
