Rotherham health charities to tee off at joint event

Keen golfers are being sought by two leading health charities in Rotherham for a joint fundraising event.

The Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity and Rotherham Cancer Care are hosting a Charity Golf Day on Thursday 21 September at Rotherham Golf Club.

The event will provide an opportunity for 18 teams of four people to compete at one of Yorkshire’s most prestigious courses.

Rachael Dawes, Head of Fundraising at the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity, said: “We’re excited to be working with Rotherham Cancer Care on our first joint event because it’s such a great way to not only bring two of Rotherham’s leading health charities together, it’s a chance for businesses to join in an event which inspires team spirt and healthy competition amongst their colleagues.

“We’re so proud that we’ll be hosting the event at Rotherham Golf Club because it’s such a beautiful site and coveted by golfers throughout the region. All we need now is you to take part! It’s going to be a great atmosphere so get your team together now before the spots are filled.”

It costs £260 per four ball. The event will begin at 11am with breakfast sandwiches followed by a shotgun start at 1pm. Seasoned golfers and amateurs are welcome to enter and participants will be treated to breakfast and a two-course post-match buffet.

Steve Burns, Chairman and Trustee at Rotherham Cancer Care, has fundraised for the charity since it started in 2004.

He added: “We’ve always worked alongside the NHS to offer the very best possible care to people who are dealing with cancer in Rotherham so it’s great to now fundraise together too. This is a chance for you to play golf and to network, but also to really make a difference.

“Now’s the time to see if you’re on par with your boss, or you could even get a team of clients or customers together to play too.”

In addition, the charities have a host of sponsorship opportunities available to help boost fundraising on the day.

Apex Consulting Engineers, based at Acres Hill Lane in Sheffield, has already pledged their support by confirming they will be headline sponsors for the event.

Alternative sponsors are also being sought for the halfway house hole, the official programme and for the 18 individual holes. Businesses can also sponsor the breakfast or buffet, which will no doubt make you very popular on the day!

Ashley Lerigo, Manager at Rotherham Golf Club, also said: “We really enjoy working with charities on events like this because we can showcase our wonderful club to the community. The atmosphere at charity events is always bubbly and energetic with people wanting to raise as much money as possible while having a good time.

“We hope as many people as possible enter the competition and I think the fact we’re such an established golf club with a rich history and a spectacular setting, and the fact we have quality players like US Masters champion Danny Willett are all a big draw for people wanting to take part in golf days like this.”
