Rotherham United team up with the DWP to launch Youth & Employment Hub.

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust are delighted to kick off 2021 by launching a brand new Youth, Community & Employability Hub at the New York Stadium.

The Hub has been launched in partnership with the DWP and will help improve employment outcomes or prospects of future employment outcomes for long-term unemployed individuals and groups facing the most complex and intractable barriers to work. Initially the hub is targeting 16-24 year olds and will provide support to help them access or move closer towards employment.

As part of the Youth, Community & Employability Hub, Rotherham United Community Sports Trust will provide personal career guidance appointments where we will create individualised action plans for all individuals. Working with various partners, local organisations and local employers we hope a joined up approach can support customers to increase their chances of been offered interviews, help them overcome barriers to employment and subsequently secure employment in the region.

In the short-term these sessions will be delivered remotely due to government guidelines, however we are looking forward to welcoming individuals to the New York Stadium where we have developed a purpose-built facility, boasting meeting rooms, computers, catering facilities and equipment for social interaction.

The Trust have recently appointed Sandra Greatorex in a new Employability & Skills Officer role. Sandra has vast experience in the Youth & Employment industry and is looking forward to leading on this provision: “I am looking forward to be back working in Rotherham and helping the young people to raise their aspirations, achieve their goals and progressing them into employment through different opportunities such as volunteering, work experience and education.”

James Mahoney (Education Manager) is also looking forward to starting this provision and supporting people in Rotherham: “We are delighted to be able to work alongside the DWP to support people in Rotherham move closer to employment. Throughout the last 12 months the impact of Covid-19 has had a huge impact on communities including a rise in unemployment. We hope this provision can play a small part in getting people back in to work.”

Jamie Noble (Head of Community) added: “We are delighted to welcome Sandra to the team. Sandra has extensive experience working on similar projects and her expertise will be a great addition to the Trust. I would also like to thank the DWP whose support has allowed us to get this exciting Youth, Community & Employability Hub up and running”.
