Runners and walkers wanted for charity fun run at Gulliver’s Valley

Rotherham runners are being urged to grab their trainers and take part in a unique fun run for a worthy cause at Gulliver’s Valley.

The theme park resort will host 1,000 runners (500 each day) over the weekend of July 16 and 17 for its annual fun run following a route taking in the park’s rides and attractions.

The colourful event will raise money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, which supports terminally ill children and their families across South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and parts of North Lincolnshire.

A ticket combining the fun run and theme park entry is just £15 per person, with £5 of each entry being donated directly to Bluebell Wood.

In addition, for every participant Gulliver’s Valley will donate one theme park ticket to a local children’s charity, supporting young people throughout the Rotherham area.

The race route is one mile and participants are welcome to run, walk or toddle to the finish line. All participants will receive a fun run medal and amazing prices will be up for grabs for the best fancy dress costume.

A place in the race must be booked online, with 500 places available each day. Registration and runner number collection takes place at 9am, with the race beginning at 9.45am. Rides and attractions open from 10.30am.

Those not taking part can still purchase theme park tickets (entry from 10.30am) at the standard rate.

Andy Flowers, resort manager at Gulliver’s Valley, said: “Our fun run is a fantastic opportunity to raise money to support the vital work of Bluebell Wood and other local children’s charities.

“It’s a short course and the emphasis is on fun so we hope to see many families and friends in their best fancy dress for what will be a wonderful weekend.”

Ruth Wallbank, regional fundraising manager at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “We’re really grateful to Gulliver’s Valley to be the charity partner for this year’s fun run.

“The race will help us raise much-needed funds to support children and their families during an incredibly difficult time. It costs £5.1 million a year to provide our life-changing care so we hope to see as many runners and walkers as possible to raise funds that will make a real difference.”
