Show your support for hosting Britain’s railway HQ in South Yorkshire!

Doncaster is bidding to be the home of the headquarters of Great British Railways (GBR), the new body that will run our railways.  If successful this would bring hundreds of new, skilled jobs to our area at the HQ and beyond. In Doncaster alone, it could be worth over £100m to the economy each year. It would secure our region as the UK’s premier location for rail industry jobs and business opportunities. It will attract investment from across the globe, again creating business and jobs in supply chains around the North.

Your Chamber, along with many of our neighbouring Chambers and strategic partners, is fully supportive of the bid for this huge economic prize.

We are now asking our members to show their support and play a role in securing it for our region.

We believe that Doncaster is the natural choice for GBR. South Yorkshire is home to over two hundred rail and engineering companies. We built the most iconic locomotives from history – the Flying Scotsman and Mallard – and maintain the UK’s modern fleets today.

But we are up against stiff competition. Around 11 places are bidding. The strength of local support among business and the public is a key factor in this. The government is looking closely for evidence of it over social media and its mailbags.

Let’s send them the strongest message of support for Doncaster’s bid:

• Indicate your support on our website through completing our short survey.
• Express your support in the media and through social media using the hashtag: #DoncasterMade4GBRHQ alongside DfT’s hashtag: #DestinationGBR.
• Write to Grant Shapps MP, the Secretary of State at the Department of Transport (email: [email protected]), with a copy to the Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng (email: [email protected]), indicating your support and outlining the benefits this would bring to the northern business community.
