SOUTH YORKSHIRE CHARITY RALLIES TO SUPPORT COMMUNITIES DURING CORONAVIRUS CRISIS

The charity behind the recent South Yorkshire Flood Disaster Relief Appeal has acted once more to support the community organisations and charities so important to local relief in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.

South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation (SYCF) is distributing funds raised by the  National Emergencies Trust (NET) Coronavirus Appeal for frontline organisations supporting people across the UK whilst they are at their most vulnerable.

Funding from the appeal is already being distributed, with the first grant of £25,000 being given to the extensive Sheffield Food Bank Network to help them continue their essential work, which includes providing food parcels for those who are in self-isolation.

The newly appointed High Sheriff of South Yorkshire, Carole O’Neill said:

“Food Banks are close to my heart and I am so pleased that SYCF have given a grant of £25,000 from the Covid-19 Response Fund to be spread across Sheffield Food Bank Network for people experiencing hardship as a result of Covid-19.

“Please remember to protect the NHS, wash your hands regularly and only venture out if your journey is really necessary. Stay safe. We are all in this together.”

The charity is encouraging more applications from community organisations who are working to tackle the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak. The fund’s aims and priorities are to support community organisations that are working to ease the immediate difficulties communities are facing and to support their recovery in the coming weeks and months.

Chief Executive of South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation, Ruth Willis said:

“South Yorkshire, like everywhere else, is struggling through these unprecedented times and the Covid-19 Response Fund is our contribution to helping communities to maintain services and to meet the needs of those most vulnerable right now and in the coming months.

“As with the South Yorkshire Flood Disaster Relief Appeal, which we set up in the immediate aftermath of the floods in November 2019 to support those whose homes were flooded, we have once more responded to provide relief to the communities which are being impacted by this crisis the most.

“The community organisations and charities working across South Yorkshire need our support more than ever. South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation and our partner Community Foundations across the UK are doing our best to ensure they get the help they need.”

The NET Coronavirus Appeal has already had over £20m pledged to the appeal with £7.5m already given out for distribution across the country. Hundreds of organisations are set to benefit from the huge appeal.
