Cares Laboratory Ltd | WINNER Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation 2022

Barnsley’s Cares Laboratory Ltd, inventors and manufacturers of the Vamoosh® cleaning brand has been awarded the prestigious ‘Queen’s Award for Enterprise – Innovation 2022’ in relation to their groundbreaking Vamoosh® Pet Hair Dissolver.

A laundry product with patented technology uniquely designed to dissolve pet hairs from pet bedding and blankets during the wash, Vamoosh® Pet Hair Dissolver was created in 2017 and has gone from strength to strength since its launch.

Established in 1965 to reward outstanding achievement by UK businesses, the Queen’s Award for Enterprise is the highest official recognition for British companies. After going through an extensive review process personally approved by the Queen, Vamoosh® won in the Innovation category alongside some of the UK’s most exciting new brands.

As a result of this distinguished win, Cares Laboratory has been invited to a winners’ Royal reception at Buckingham Palace in July, hosted by HRH The Prince of Wales.

Vamoosh® Pet Hair Dissolver was the brand’s first cleaning product and was created by Tom Abbey and Dave Toms, friends of over 30 years.

Tom had the idea after becoming frustrated with the amount of hair from his dog – named Mr Chips – that gathered in his washing machine every time he washed the dog bed. To bring the product to life, he partnered with Dave – a qualified chemist with more than 30 years’ experience leading R&D teams in the cleaning category.

Beloved by national figures such as Mrs Hinch and TV’s Queen of Clean, Lynsey Crombie, Vamoosh® products are stocked at several national retailers like B&M, The Range, Wilkos, Robert Dyas and Pets at Home.

Since launching Vamoosh®, Cares Laboratory has also released two further products – a fabric whitener designed specifically for lingerie and a unique 6-in-1 washing machine deep cleaner and the team have more product launches using patented technology scheduled for later this year.

Tom Abbey said: “We’re absolutely delighted to receive this honour. We put a lot of time and effort into creating this product and we’ve been blown away by the response we have had over the last few years. Winning such a prestigious award takes things to a new level, and we’re so grateful for all the support we’ve received.”

Dave Toms said: “It has been so encouraging to see our hard work pay off and we’re truly humbled that our first product, Vamoosh® Pet Hair Dissolver, has been recognised by The Queen’s Award.

“We’re not resting on our laurels, however – we have more patented inventions planned for launch this year and hope to add more Queen’s Awards in the future.  We are also ramping up our exports to Europe and the USA with the Pet Hair Dissolver. It’s been a great ride so far for us and we’re excited to see what the future brings.”
