The Source Skills Academy’s fundraising commitment to NHS charity

One of South Yorkshire’s leading training providers will be putting their fundraising skills to the test in 2021 after nominating the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity as their first ever charity of the year.

Employees, apprentices and partners of The Source Skills Academy, based at Meadowhall Way, Sheffield, are looking forward to an exciting year of activities to help boost the NHS charity.

Tricia Smith, Chief Executive of The Source, says the academy hopes their support will provide a much-needed boost to the charity as the NHS continues to care for patients with Covid-19.

“Community and social wellbeing is very much at the heart of we do at The Source. We are a charitable organisation too and are keen to support other local charities who have the same purpose, which is to support some of our most vulnerable communities,” she said.

“In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, none are more deserving than the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity. We’ve wanted to launch a charity of the year incentive for a while now and have been really inspired by the work of NHS charities.

“We are planning a range of activities over the coming year, which will generate donations for the charity, but will also provide respite, a morale boost and the feel good factor for our staff during these challenging times. We hope as many people as possible support our fundraising. We want to make our first year of fundraising a truly memorable one.”

The Source Skills Academy provides of training development and conferencing facilities for the local community and businesses, including those in Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham. Its profits are already reinvested in the long term development of training and apprenticeships to create a self-sustaining organisation.

It contributes to regional, social and economic regeneration strategies, connecting disadvantaged communities to new economic opportunities, supporting local businesses in their training needs and encouraging inward investment in the sub-region.

To kick-start their year of fundraising, the academy will be supporting the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity’s Christmas Virtual Bucket Challenge.

Instead of collecting your spare change in person this Christmas, the team will be rattling their collection tin virtually while hosting festive activities, such as a Christmas Jumper Day and a virtual staff party, to inspire donations.

All the funds raised for the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity will help to provide the added extras for patients, their families and staff which the NHS would ordinarily not be able to afford.

Martin Havenhand, Chairman of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It’s a real honour for the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity to be nominated as The Source’s first charity of the year.

“All the money raised by The Source will help us to make a real difference to the patients we care for in the community and at Rotherham Hospital and I’m sure they will inspire others to fundraise for the charity this Christmas and throughout 2021.

“The team has some fantastic fundraising ideas up their sleeve already. We can’t wait to get started.”
