Yorkshire Indian restaurant receives five-star hygiene rating
An Indian restaurant has been handed a new five-out-of-five food hygiene rating.
The new recently refurbished restaurant Goa Indian Restaurant & Takeaway, on Woodhouse Green, Thurcroft, Rotherham was given the maximum score after assessment on January 21st, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.
Food handling, including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage, cleanliness and condition of facilities, and food safety management, was found to be good by inspectors.
A hygiene rating of 0 means urgent improvement is required; 1 means “major improvement is necessary.”
A 2 star rating means “some improvement is necessary”, while 3 star means “hygiene standards are generally satisfactory” and 4 star means “hygiene standards are good.”
A 5 star rating means “hygiene standards are very good.” The restaurant was taken over by experienced entrepreneur brothers, Mamun and Masum Ali whose Goa Spice franchise has restaurants established across South and West Yorkshire and was officially re-opened by Local MP Alexander Stafford.
Mamun said, “We are thrilled that we have been awarded the maximum hygiene rating as we have put a lot of demanding work into the operation to receive this.”
The venue, which is also licenced, serves Cobra Beer on draught, plus a range of additional bottled refreshments and a selection of wines from around the world.
Masum said, “The business over the last 6 months has benefitted by an investment in more specialist kitchen technology and the menu provides affordable luxury catering to all palettes, we also now cater for Vegan and Coeliac allergies.
The restaurant formally known as the Double Barrel was purchased by local Entrepreneur and CEO of Gala Tent, Jason Mace, in 2013, and has long served the area as a steakhouse bar and restaurant. However, in the wake of the global pandemic, the once-great establishment doors closed permanently in February 2021.
The Double Barrel was built in 1971 and since then has been a well patronised venue and large part of the community. The new themed Goa Indian restaurant and takeaways is now taking booking online and will certainly spice things thing up for locals and wider-field visitors alike.
